  • Nestlings Program (Comox)

Hello!

I’m delighted to have the honour of facilitating the Comox Nestlings program this year.  I’m Mom to two wonderful daughters, Wendy to two fine stepsons, and Nana to two young and curious grandchildren.

For about 40 years I’ve been working and playing with preschoolers of all ages, from a Co-op Preschool and Family Daycare in Sointula, to many years at Beaufort Childrens’ Centre, to a Waldorf inspired preschool, to Hand-in-Hand Seeds Program, to Retirement for the past few years…it’s been a journey.  To be back with Hand-in-Hand on Thursday mornings is a bonus.

I learned first hand the value of the great outdoors growing up in Prince Rupert.  As a child, most of my play time was spent in trees and huckleberry bushes, exploring, smelling and tasting nature, which is where I learned the flower of the skunk cabbage is definitely not palatable. Nature was an inspiration, a fascination and a friend when in need of solace.

I welcome you to Comox Nestlings, where together we will explore many facets of Nature around us. With all our senses open, the magic of the changing seasons provides us with a gift that keeps on giving.

Experiencing Nature first hand as very young children develops an appreciation for the flora and the fauna that will carry through life.  Experiential knowledge of the elements creates inspiration for the manifestation of thoughtful, productive stewards of Mother Earth.

We will sing some songs, do some nature inspired crafts, make new friends, share stories, explore our outdoor classrooms, and be there to help support each other as we nurture the children in our lives.
