Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

Children and nature go Hand-In-Hand…naturally. When a tree drops its leaves on a crisp autumn day, a child reaches down their hand to touch it. When a raindrop falls from a wet winter sky, a child stretches out their hand to feel it. And when a butterfly flutters by on a warm spring day, a child chases it with their hand to hold it. Children and nature go Hand-In-Hand, and when a child explores, interacts and learns from nature they do so by reaching out their hand and touching it!

Learning Environments

The nature parks of Cumberland, Comox and Campbell River are living classrooms that foster an understanding and appreciation of nature through direct experiences. Educational programs for all ages encourage responsibility for the care and protection of the natural environment. Managed by the Village of Cumberland, Town of Comox and City of Campbell River these village and town refuges provide an exceptional opportunity to bring people and nature together.

What is Nature Education?

In rural areas, and historical times, access to nature has not been a problem. Over the last century, with increasing urbanization and “nature deficit disorder”, there have been many changes in stance on outdoor education.
