5th Annual Vancouver Island Nature Education Campference...FOR KIDS!!!
– Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, Parksville, BC –
– Friday, June 12th – Sunday, June 14th, 2020 –
Hello forest friendly families!
I hope you are all doing well and taking GREAT care of yourselves!
It is with great sadness and hope that I write this message to you all. At this time, BC Parks has announced that all parks and protected areas for BC Parks are closed until further notice. In addition, BC Centre for Disease Control has announced that all event organizers are ordered to limit all public gatherings larger than 50 people. With this information in mind, we have made the official call to cancel the 5th Annual Vancouver Island Nature Education Campference…FOR KIDS on June Friday, June 12th to Sunday, June 14th, 2020.
That was the sad part. Now here’s the hopeful part…
I hope that we can all come together again and celebrate one another in the forest and on beaches someday soon. I hope that the change that we see in the world and in our lives today brings newfound awareness for the protection, conservation and appreciation of our natural environment. I hope that when we start “physical nearing” ourselves again, we come together stronger, healthier and more connected as a unified community of people who respect and value this big, beautiful and miraculous earth we all call home. And most of all, I hope that we see our children play with each other once again in nature and when we do, we all come together and celebrate our collective playfulness at next year’s KIDS Campference!
I thank you all…each and every one of you and your families for your interest, commitment and availability to attend this year’s 5th Annual KIDS Campference. I look forward to reconnecting with you all once again in the coming months so that we can pick up where we are now leaving off and continue looking forward what has become a ritualistic weekend event for so many forest friendly families on Vancouver Island and in Vancouver. My heart goes out to all of you, for I deeply and truly love your support, passion and willingness to be apart of this great and very important field of Nature Education and I respect and honour the play in nature that you all bring to your children.
If you reserved a campsite for the KIDS Campference at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, please note the following announcement in regards to refunds as issued by BC Parks:
“Full refunds will automatically be provided for reservations with arrival dates from March 20th to May 31st, inclusive. Given the high volume of refunds, please allow additional time for processing. Cancelling your own reservation may cause delays. Visit www.bcparks.ca for ongoing updates and information. Thank you for your patience as we work through this unprecedented time.”
Lastly, as many of you know, in addition to the KIDS Campference being an event that gives back to the many Vancouver Island and Vancouver families who believe in and support nature education programs for children of all ages, it is also Hand-In-Hand Nature Education’s largest annual fundraiser where we raise thousands of dollars for our In-House Subsidy Fund, providing financial assistance to low income families who are interested in registering their children in our nature education program. In the past 4 years, we have raised enough money to help register many families in our program at little or no cost. Being that the KIDS Campference is now cancelled, we unfortunately won’t have the opportunity to raise enough funds for the many inquiring families in need. We understand and appreciate that these are hard times for us all, but if you’re able to make a donation to our In-House Subsidy Fund, we would be most appreciative and super duper grateful!!! Anything and everything helps. If you’re interested in making a donation, please send an e-transfer to email@example.com and in your notes, please write: 5th Annual Vancouver Island Nature Education Campference: In-House Subsidy Fund Donation. Having said that, I’d like to thank the many families that had already made a thoughtful and generous donation and if would like to receive your donation back, please let me know and we will gladly return it to you.
Finally, being that our regular scheduled programs are closed to all of our forest friends until further notice, on behalf of our entire team of Nature Educators, we feel that the very best we can offer you all at this time are Kid Friendly Nature Activities that you and your family can enjoy together. We have been and will continue to be featuring a list of activities every week until we reopen our outdoor classrooms and welcome back our forest friends. We invite you all to share these activities far and wide and welcome your family and friends to visit our list and enjoy as well (click here).
Once again, I thank you all and we will miss you dearly and deeply!
Please give yourselves a BIG forest friendly hug from us all, keep well and be in touch.
And always remember…GO NATURE!!!
