FAQ

Q. To register, I have to pay a non-refundable 10% annual tuition down payment. If there are no spaces available, do I get my down payment back?

A. Yes. If there are no more spaces available, then your down payment will not be processed and you will be asked if you would like to be put on our wait-list.

Q. Do I have to register for the entire year?

A. Yes, however if you are unable to make that commitment at this time, you can request which months you would like your child to be put on a wait-list and if those months become available, you will then be notified at least one month in advance.

Q. Is there a cancellation process?

A. Yes. Hand-In-Hand Early Years Nature Education Program requires one month written notice if you plan on withdrawing your child. Notice must be provided on the first of the month prior to the month requested (e.g. To withdraw for November 1st, written notice is required no later than October 1st). Withdrawals are not accepted after April 1st.

Q. Do I pay monthly?

A. You have the option of either paying monthly, in full or any other arrangement in between the two that is most convenient for you.

Q. Is there a foul weather plan?

A. Yes. If Environment Canada issues a “Wind Warning in Effect” for our operating day, parents/guardians will receive an email, text and phone call by 8am to notify about our alternate indoor location (The Cultural Centre for Cumberland, The Comox Community Centre for Comox and the Sportsplex for Campbell River) and continue with appropriate activities (nature inspired crafts, song-time, story-time, games, etc.). In regards to rainy and/or snowy conditions, there’s a motto in the Nature Preschool community that says, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!” Before the program begins, there will be a Parent Information Session that will discuss appropriate clothing, among other relevant information.

Q. Are there washrooms easily available?

A. Yes. The porta-potty that we will be using for the use of the children will be a self-contained portable camping toilet that the Hand-In-Hand Education staff will be cleaning and sanitizing on a daily basis off-site. The toilet features high quality construction and generous water reserves. The high-density construction makes it strong and durable. It is tough enough to handle the requirements of our program. It has a 12-Litre freshwater capacity that provide 50-flushes without recirculating, which is more than enough for 16-children in a 3-hour time frame. Both tanks are in one piece with heavy duty and corrosion side latches that lock the tank together. Due to its compact size, it is ideal for children aged 3-5 years old. The portable camping toilet will be carried inside of a wagon that the educators will trail along throughout the program, so the porta-potty goes wherever the educators go. The porta-potty will only be used by the participants of the program, and there will be a hand washing/sanitizing station that will accompany it. For our Comox location, we will use the bathrooms at the Filberg Park if/when we are close by. For our Campbell River location, we will use the bathrooms at the Sportplex if/when we are close by.

Q. How do you handle food allergies?

A. After submitting your Registration Form, you will receive information how to fill our our online Enrolment Form, which includes a section that asks you to list your child’s food allergies. Hand-In-Hand Early Years Nature Education Program will then email a list of all the food allergies to all of the parents/guardians and request that parents do not send their child with snacks containing any of the listed foods. With that said, children are not encouraged to share snacks.

Q. Does my child need to be of age by the beginning of the program?

A. No. We follow School District 71 and 72 cut off dates, which states that a child need to be of age by December 31st of their enrolment year. As a guide, the SEEDS (3-year old) program is designed for children who will be entering kindergarten in 2 years and the ROOTS (4-year old) program is designed for children entering kindergartener in 1 year.
